Internal Family Systems Parts Map

The IFS Parts Mapper is a between-session tool designed to support your Internal Family Systems therapy. As parts emerge in our work together, you can record them here and observe how your inner landscape shifts over time. All information entered is stored locally on your device and is not accessible to anyone else.

Please note, this tool has been designed for computer / laptop access. Some features of the mapping process are limited when using a mobile phone.

What can I use it for?

Use the mapper to capture what emerged in a session while it is still fresh — naming a new part, recording its role or fear, or noting a shift in how you relate to it.

Tracking progress over time

As parts are understood and unburdened, you can update their size, depth, and stage on the map. The visual record of change can itself be a meaningful part of the therapeutic process.

Preparing for sessions

Returning to your map before a session can help you reconnect with where you left off and identify what feels most alive or pressing to work with next.

The Export function allows you to save and share your map, making it easy to bring into sessions as a point of reference or reflection.

Sharing with your therapist

How it works...

The tool runs entirely in your web browser. No account is required, and nothing you enter is stored on any server or shared with anyone — including On Point Therapy. Your map lives only on your own device.

A few things to know before you begin:

- Use the Export button regularly to save a backup file to your device. This is the only way to preserve your map if you change browsers or devices.

- To continue from a previous session, use the Import button to reload your saved file.

- The tool works best on a desktop or laptop computer in Chrome or Edge.

- If you are new to IFS, it is recommended to use this tool alongside therapy rather than independently — your therapist can help you work with what arises.

Frequently asked questions

Is my information private?
Yes. Everything you enter into the Parts Mapper is stored only on your own device. It is not transmitted to Auckland IFS or any third party. Only you can access what you create.
Do I need to be a client of Auckland IFS or On Point Therapy to use this tool?

The tool is freely available to anyone. However, it is designed to be used alongside IFS therapy, and parts work can sometimes bring up significant material. If you are not currently working with a therapist, we encourage you to seek support before using the tool independently.

Will my map be saved if I come back?
Your map is saved automatically in your browser while you are using it. However, to ensure it is not lost when you close the browser or switch devices, use the Export button to download a backup file after each session with the tool.
What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?
IFS is an evidence-based therapeutic model that understands the mind as made up of many different parts, each with their own roles and protective strategies. It is used to address a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties.
Can I share my map with my therapist?
Yes. Use the Export button to save your map as a file, which you can then email or bring to your next session.

This tool has been developed for use alongside therapy at Auckland IFS and On Point Therapy. It is not a substitute for professional support. If you are experiencing distress, please reach out to your therapist or contact a crisis support service.
